Gainsborough Organ Society Concert

About Us

The Gainsborough Organ Society was formed in 1980 with our first venue being the late Ron Woodhall's Organ Centre, before moving to the Centenary Chapel in Gainsborough.

We also held two "major events" each year at the Town Hall, but in 1989, the proprietors of the Town Hall moved to a brand new banqueting suite called the "Weston Rooms".
We moved our "major events" there, whilst still holding our normal monthly concerts at the Chapel.

With an ever increasing attendance, in 1992, we became sufficiently confident to hold all our events at the "Weston Rooms" and since then, we have never looked back.

To achieve our aims, we demand a high standard of performance and also ensure the friendliest of atmosphere, so that concerts are not just audiences listening to programmes, but meetings of friends socialising together.

With the exception of July and August, when we have a break, our concerts are held on the last Thursday of each month, where we are currently averaging 150.

In addition to the monthly concerts, we have "major events" in March and November with a dinner dance on the Saturday night, followed by a concert in the afternoon the next day, and in January each year, we have a special where two organists appear. Our now famous Christmas Concert is where the committee dress up in costumes with a pantomime theme, as part of the concert presented by a leading star organist.

We usually achieve a full house each year at each of our specials with just over 200 attending.

In April we have a special night where the committee become waiters and serve a hot meal to our members before the concert.
We normally serve around 160, the food for which is prepared by Julian and Elaine Hughes, the proprietors of the "Weston Rooms", who offer us tremendous support.
We are very fortunate in having a superb venue, together with total support from the owners.

In June 2005, we celebrated our 25th Anniversary by launching our new screen and overhead projector, at a concert performed by Phil Kelsall.

Our Thursday concerts start at 7.30pm and it is always pay at the door.

Our Sunday concerts start at 2.30pm but admission is by ticket only which must be ordered and paid for in advance. They are priced separately.

Hot beef rolls are available before the concerts start, together with full bar facilities, and sweets are served during the interval.

Prices for admission are £3.00 for OAP members; £3.50 for other members and £4.50 for visitors.

Membership fees are £3.00 OAP; £4.00 others; £6 per couple and £6.50 for a family.

The address for the "Weston Rooms" is Hickman Street, Gainsborough, DN21 2DZ. A website link to a map of the Weston Rooms can be found on the "Contact Us" page of this website.
